Though the main site has been in Mike's family for generations, both LFWV's vineyard sites were chosen for their proximity to the basin and for their rare Wolfville Formation Soil that makes up a mere 3 percent of Nova Scotia's soil spectrum. The upper root horizon consists of glacial till with coarse sandy loam, while the deep root horizon’s clay content provides ideal moisture retention. Between the home farm and another site in nearby Avonport, LFWV has 35 acres of vines and the largest selection of European vinifera in Atlantic Canada in addition to a robust selection of hybrid varietals - the selection of which was made with close attention to the orientation, soil make up and details of each site.
