Criolla (also sometimes used as a blanket term to refer to a family of grapes) is arguably one of the foundational grapes of the wines of the Americas. It is one of the oldest varieties in the world and although it fell out of favour amongst wine growers and the drinking trends 50 years, it's making a resurgeance, and rightfully so. In this iteration it's light ruby-red in colour and has notes of currants, ripe dark purple berries and just a touch of raspberry leaf. Low in tannins, medium in acidity, majoring in fun.
