The History
…Or Chiesa for short! Tucked into the steep, sandy Santo Stefano hills in Roero (Piedmont), brothers Carlo, Renato and Giuseppe represent the fifth generation of the Chiesa family to grow and make wine on their land.
Founded in the mid-1700s in the sun-drenched hills of the Roero, Chiesa Carlo is a prestigious family business that spans over five generations.
For centuries now, their core values of sustainable agriculture, respect for the environment, and taste for experimentation allowed the Chiesa family to successfully balance innovation and tradition in their production of their celebrated Roero wines like the Roero Arneis D.O.C.G.,
The Philosophy
It’s increasingly unusual to find a thriving multi-generational farm still engaged in polyculture, and this one seems a very harmonious operation. Since Chiesa’s land has been in the same hands for over 300 years, the family can assert with authority that only copper and sulfur have ever been used in the vines. As the brothers tell you, they have been practicing Organic agriculture ‘since forever’.
Their work in the cellar is similarly straight-forward and traditional. The wines stand out in the Roero for their lack of intervention and manipulation, which shows through in their purity and focus.
