Marie Thibault

With a degree in biology and oenology, Marie Thibault began making wine in the early 2000s at François Chidaine’s estate. In 2004, she broke out on her own and started making her own wines.

Now, Marie works off an incredible plot: 3.5 hectare in Azay-le-Rideau, a lesser known parcel of land in the Touraine appellation. This is one contiguous parcel on a gentle, windy slope that is drier than the other vineyards of Azay-le-Rideau, which lie on a plateau.  Her vineyard is marked by white clay and limestone. She immediately began to farm organically in 2011 and was certified in 2014.

While in some sense this is a new beginning for Marie, she has over a decade of experience making wine and benefits from strong relationships with many growers in the region such as Noëlla Morantin and Frantz Saumon. Her passion and energy is infectious.

Marie works with the typical Loire varietals: Chenin, Côt, Gamay, Sauvignon and Grolleau – this last one is particularly well adapted to her place. This is historical terroir and the first written dealing with old varieties of Grolleau have been discovered in 1810 in Cinq Mars la Pile, 5 km from Marie’s estate.
