Domaine Chantal Lescure was established in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and her husband, Xavier Machard de Gramont.

The History

Unlike many growers in Burgundy, Domaine Chantal Lescure does not work as a Negociant. Founded in 1975 by Chantal and her husband Xavier (currently owned and run by their children Aymeric and Thimbault), the domaine owns 18ha of pristine vineyards from Meursault in the Côte de Beaune to Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits.

Along with winemaker François Chavériat (one of the most inspiring figures in Burgundy, no doubt) they painstakingly selected the best sites in Burgundy based on terroir and soil type (from rare blue granite to limestone smattered with red clay coloured with iron oxides).

The wines of Domaine Chantal Lescure, like many other small domaines, have slipped under the radar of the major English-speaking wine writers, but are well-revered with the French.

The Philosophy

Since 1996 François has been moving the estate towards using Organic and Biodynamic viticulture in the vineyards and less and less intervention in the cellar. Today François employs slow fermentations using only wild yeasts with relatively long periods of maceration, minimal pigeage, very little fining or filtration and little to no added sulphites. Each task in the winey is carried out by hand or with the help of gravity.
