Antica Enotria

Antica Enotria

Antica Enotria was founded by Raffaele Di Tuccio in Puglia with the goal to farm and make wine in accordance with the rythms of mother nature.

"The rhythm of the earth. Everyday is different; powerful or submissive. You listen to it and feel Mother Nature, following her rhythm, until one day you realize that the rhythm of the earth and your own rhythm keep the same tempo. Suddenly, you realize that you can't keep exploiting, poisoning and pushing because whatever you do to the land, you do to yourself. And you then you begin to respect. Respect for yourself and your land, for time and for life. The rhythm resumes its tempo, naturally slow, finally natural. The grapes you grow become insatiable, but now you understand why."

The thought that vineyards mimic life, and life mimics the growth in the vineyard is what keeps Raffaele Di Tuccio his son Luigi, and wife Antonia invested in organic and biodynamic farming in Puglia, Italy.

Their 12 hectares of vineyard lie just a few kilometres from the Gulf of Manfredonia. They have farmed them organically since 1993. The older vineyards are trained to the traditional local Puglia pergola, while the younger plantings, put in less than ten years ago, are trained to the spurred cordon. They grow varieties indigenous to Puglia, nero di Troia, primitivo, and negroamaro, as well as varieties classic to areas bordering Daunia, such as aglianico and falanghina (Greco).
