The History

Domaine Saint Nicolas is located at the extreme southern end of the Loire delta, just south of Muscadet. This 40-hectare biodynamic paradise is managed by passionate vigneron Thierry Michon.

Here you'll find everything from Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay to Gamay (but no Melon de Bourgogne) all benefiting from the unique schist and silex soils and the moderating effects of the ocean. Committed to his craft — he can often be found tending to vines late into the night by horse or tractor while still answering calls on his cell phone. Everything is hand-harvested and the reds are crushed by foot in large foudre.

The Philosophy

Thierry is a true leader in the biodynamic movement. Nothing but organic products are used to cultivate his vineyards. He even purchased buffer zones all around his property ensuring that chemical-filled runoff from neighbouring wineries doesn't invade his land! Biodynamics isn't simply part of what he does - it's way of life for him.
